Lida Doumouliaka (born in Athens, Greece, in 1994) is a choreographer, dancer, and musician. Her artistic practice focuses on the dialogue between movement and music, creating choreographic worlds in which these two forms coexist seamlessly on stage.
After graduating from the Greek National School of Dance in 2016, she performed with the Hellenic Dance Company, working on repertoires by renowned choreographers such as Akram Khan, Martha Graham, and Jasmin Vardimon.
Alongside her performance career, she began experimenting with choreography and composing music for her own creations. She gradually presented her work at various dance festivals in Greece. In 2018, she became a member of Simone Mongelli’s Body Music Company, where she performed as a singer and body percussionist for six consecutive years.
Since 2020, she has been based in Zurich, Switzerland, where she completed a Master’s degree in Dance, Choreography at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). During her studies, she developed her artistic research on the kinetic interpretation of musical scores, a concept she continues to explore under the title “Times and Signatures.” During this period, she also completed an internship with the Malpaso Dance Company in Cuba, where she collaborated as both a performer and choreographer.
Her connection with ZHdK continues today, as she returns as a guest choreographer. Since 2023, she has created three works for BA students of the university, set to music by Arvo Pärt, Igor Stravinsky, and Dmitri Shostakovich.
Her work for Luzerner Theater, titled “Spring of Rites,” premiered in October 2023 as part of the evening program “Exploration of Energy.” The piece offers a choreographic interpretation inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring.”
Doumouliaka has been actively participating in dance festivals across Europe. In 2022, she was selected for the Hannover Choreographic Competition with her work “Traces.” In the following season, she toured with her team presenting the short piece “Chase the Rabbit.” The work was created during a residency at the Residenzzentrum tanz+ in Baden, Switzerland, and in 2024 it was presented at Tanzinolten Dance Festival, Lugar Futuro Festival in Portugal, and the Incidanse Festival in Fribourg, Switzerland, where it received the first prize, the Carte Blanche.
This season, she created the work “Waltzing Through” for the BA students of the Ballet Academy of Munich. Set to music by Maurice Ravel, the piece was presented as part of the Spring Matinee 2026 at the National Theatre in Munich.
On April 23rd, her latest creation, “Times and Signatures / A Matter of Femininity,” will premiere at Théâtre Équilibre–Nuithonie in Fribourg. The work is dedicated to and inspired by women composers of classical music.
